Breast Core Biopsy
You may discover a breast lump on self-palpation or your latest ultrasound may pick one up. As imaging by itself can’t confirm the presence of cancer, obtaining a tissue sample may sometimes be necessary.
A core biopsy is one of the commonest ways to obtain tissue from the lump. Under local anaesthesia a needle takes a few cores of tissue from the lump leaving a tiny scar of 3-5mm. This procedure can be performed in the clinic under ultrasound guidance.
