I Have A Breast Lump. Is It Cancer?

I have a breast lump. Is it cancer?

More than 80% of breast lumps are not cancer. It is important however to recognize when it may be cancer. Look for some of these accompanying tell tale signs:

  • hardness of the lump
  • accompanying dimpling or puckering of the skin
  • redness or darkening of the skin
  • a recent change in the shape or the size of the breast
  • new nipple discharge
  • pulling in of the nipple
  • sore or rash on the nipple

Even with these changes, it may not turn out to be cancer. However the converse is also true, you may have a lump with none of these changes and it may turn out to be cancer. So, it is always a prudent decision to seek medical attention when you discover a new lump in your breast.
